![]() Let this review be a warning to Sonic fans, avoid this game at all costs, download Sonic Triple Trouble which is £4.50 instead or wait until the GameGear versions of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 and 2 appear on the Virtual Console.ġ.Ĝlunky Controls and Sonic has no speed in this gameĤ.This enclosed, water-filled cavern level is constructed entirely of yellow/orange stone blocks, including a mixture of carved squares and naturally-shaped rocks, in varied sizes. It's also not even worth getting the best ending on if you somehow managed to beat the game but without accomplishing the best ending at all. For £4.50 on EShop it's simply not worth it to download if you already played this train wreck back on the GameGear or on some other Sonic discs. Sonic Labyrinth will simply horrify today's Sonic fans as it did 17 years ago thanks to the flaws that I already mentioned enough times already. It comes close to being of the worst games released on the 3DS Virtual Console. The sound effects and Music is horrible that you're better off playing through the whole game with the sound off. The sprites tend to flicker quite a bit and on top of how bad the level design it's also blend and generic at best. The only thing about Sonic Labyrinth is that it is emulated quite well and graphics are very much similar to Sonic 3D Flickies Island except that it is in 8 bit on handheld. At least the 3DS Virtual Console release has the Save and Load position menu to help you out a bit but it's not going to help you much against the terrible level design. Time Attack is also included where you tackle only one level in the fastest time possible and also you might want to set the life counter to 10 before you even dare to tackle the main game. This game may not be unplayable but however the extremely bad mechanics, horrible controls and horrendous level design still makes this one of most frustrating Sonic title made 17 years ago. The bosses can be easily beaten by perfect timings but also if you get accidently too close then you'll take damage. In one level you need to shoot yourself from cannon to cannon to get the keys but trying to get the right routes is a pain and the same problem goes for when your exploring a maze.īoss battles aren't all that challenging as long as you don't mess around with the spin dash. The level design is just absolutely badly designed with plenty of spikes that you'll accidently pump into, platforms that can explode, confusing mazes that will get you nowhere fast and also areas that will leave you scratching your head in thinking where to go to find the exit. What's a pain is that whenever you lose rings you can't get them back which is ridiculous since Sonic already knows how to pick up his rings when he loses them. Rings can be seen in the bonus levels or during the boss fights which is a little bit strange. There are no rings to find in the main levels so each time you're hit you lose some time and when that runs out you'll lose a life. The spin dash is best used when you want to go faster but however using it becomes extremely horrendous to control because if you hold the button to long then your spin dash will leave you bouncing off walls repeatedly or in the later levels make you fall to your death. Sonic has no speed what-so-ever and he can only relay on his spin dash to take down Eggman's Robots. While the movement is aligned well to the Circle Pad and D-Pad but everything else will make you bump into walls like a ping pong ball. The biggest problem that you're going to have with the game is the really bad controls and gameplay design. Does that sound simple to you? Well guess what, it isn't! Your goal is to get 3 keys that are scattered around each level before the time runs out. You play through 4 different Labyrinths with each consisting about 3 acts and a boss battle to fight on the 4th act. In Sonic Labyrinth Dr Eggman (formally known as Dr Robotnick) swaps Sonic's shoes for sneakers which slow his speed down considerably and Sonic has to enter the Super Labyrinth in order to regain his Speed Shoes back. It's unfortunately made its way onto the 3DS Virtual Console through the Nintendo EShop. ![]() Chances are that if you've played Sonic Adventure DX or Sonic Mega Collection Plus you've seen perhaps one of Sonic's worst games of all time called Sonic Labyrinth. The Game Gear Sonic titles where mostly decent back then but however cause of the Game Gear weak popularity left some fans out of their lesser known titles. ![]() Sonic Labyrinth will simply horrify today's Sonic fans as it did 17 years ago Release Date: 11th May 2012 (Europe), 16th May 2012 (Japan) Platform: 3DS Virtual Console (Game Gear) By AQWBlaZer91 | Review Date: Game Title: Sonic Labyrinth
